High Level Assessment for Complex Controls

Just when you thought driving was no longer an option… new technology makes the possibilities endless!

Our High Level Assessment process is for anyone exploring driving controls needed by people with minimal dexterity and strength, and those who need to drive from their wheelchair.

It has been designed to bring greater clarity around all the requirements to ensure that anyone starting on this driving journey has a realistic chance of completing it.

All “High-Level” clients will now begin with an online scoping session involving the Disability Driving Centre, your Driver Trained Occupational Therapist (DTOT), and you.

This first step helps us understand your needs, confirm whether complex controls are a safe and appropriate option, and map out the best pathway forward.

If the scoping session confirms suitability, you then move into a comprehensive on-road High-Level Assessment. This is conducted over one to two days with a specialised High-Level Driving Instructor, your DTOT, and a Disability Driving Centre technician all working together.

During this assessment, we explore driving function, control access, postural needs, safety, and the right combination of equipment for your individual situation.

At the end of the assessment, the Disability Driving Centre, in conjunction with your DTOT, provide a detailed quote, a summary of recommended equipment, the relevant paperwork needed to obtain funding, and we explain your next steps.

Once funding is secured, modifications can be completed, and drivers are then trained in their own modified vehicle which has significant advantages over the current system.

This process provides a fully coordinated and personalised driving pathway, and greater assurance you can achieve your driving goals.

If you are exploring complex driving controls, or need to drive from their wheelchair, contact us on 1300 858 410 or click the button below and fill in your details in the form.
